The Oldest fort in Goa, REIS MAGOS is based on the banks of river Mandovi in the village of Reis Magos in Bardez taluka of North Goa, India. Predating the famous Auguda fort by almost half a century , this gorgeous fort is clearly visible from across the river from the capital city of Panaji.
Reis Magos fort has a rich history. It was used for multiple purposes since it’s construction.
Initially a military outpost built by Adil shah sultanate of Bijapur in 1493 , then made into a fort by the Portuguese in 1551 as their first line of defence . It was also used as a residence for the viceroys and later as a prison . Being based on a hill, the view from here is truly splendid .
Also nearby is the first church built in the Bardez taluka ,the Church of Reis Magos (three kings)..⛺
